One of the most reliable methods involves using pure nickel electrodes, which offer several advantages for welding cast iron.
Understanding Cast Iron and Its Welding Challenges
Cast iron is a group of iron-carbon alloys with a carbon content greater than 2%. It is valued for its wear resistance, excellent castability, and ability to absorb vibration. However, its high carbon content makes it difficult to weld, as the welding process can induce thermal stresses that lead to cracking. Additionally, the carbon in the cast iron can react with the weld metal, leading to a brittle and weak joint.
